Protocol implementors, not TUV, have divided Unionism

Statement by TUV Councillor Christopher Jamieson:

“It is a matter of regret that having repeatedly highlighted the flaws in the Donaldson deal and rightly rubbished his leader’s dishonest claim that the Sea Border was gone on the floor of the House of Commons, Sammy Wilson has at last found something to say which his party’s press office is happy to promote.

“Tellingly, it is an attack on Unionists who are taking a stand in defence of the Acts of Union, something which Sir Jeffrey tries to tell us doesn’t really matter and would result on tariffs on Bushmills Whiskey and similar foolish claims. Claims which not so long ago Sammy would have highlighted the folly of making.

“It is sad to see Sammy Wilson turning on those who still oppose the Protocol for the sake of those who sold out under the Donaldson deal.

“It seems Mr Wilson is now on the side of promoting and protecting Protocol implementers. That’s a poor place for him to end up in.

“TUV remains true to its pledge to Unionist people of unalterable opposition to the Protocol. Sammy knows that in contrast his own party is implementing it through Stormont. It is those who have betrayed their pledges in not one but two elections who have divided Unionism.”
