Reilly Welcomes Leave for Judicial Review on McCreesh Park

Statement by TUV South Down Assembly candidate Councillor Henry Reilly:

“I have opposed the naming of this park after McCreesh from day one. Not only that, but the council has repeatedly ignored my warnings that it would end in court.

“I would commend Bea Worton for getting the case to this stage and wish her success in her battle.

“It is telling that in the new Northern Ireland it is left to a grandmother who has suffered at the hands of the IRA to mount such a case.

“The whole saga stands as a monument to the inadequacy of the Equality Commission. In spite of several years of correspondence with the council, the Commission chose to ultimately take no action on the decision to name a child’s play park after an IRA gunman.

“Clearly a Christian bakery is an easier target than a Republican council!

“TUV supports the introduction of legislation to strengthen the law against the glorification of terrorism so that events such as this cannot be repeated.”
