Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:
“The reception which Jeremy Corbyn received today at Queen’s says a great deal more about the audience than it does about the feelings of people in Northern Ireland who are appalled by a man who has openly supported the IRA during the height of their terrorist campaign leading Her Majesty’s opposition.
“Corbyn’s comments reported in today’s press about there being all Ireland support for unity illustrate his contempt for the people of Northern Ireland and their right to decide their own future while his attitude to Brexit is a mess. Having been a Eurosceptic for the vast majority of his career he now seeks to use the issue for narrow party political advantage. Thankfully the recent elections in Great Britain would suggest that a growing number are seeing through the bluster.
“As for his call to reconvene the useless talking shop of the British Irish Intergovernmental Conference it is nothing but further evidence of his anti-Unionist agenda.”
