Statement by TUV Lagan Valley Assembly candidate Lorna Smyth:
“Deirdre Hargey’s decision to press ahead with funding for Casement Park while shelving the £36.2 million had been set aside for football clubs across Northern Ireland is highly questionable. The favouriting of GAA over other sports when it comes to public funding is a long-standing issue. In fact, it is a scandal.
“Where is the equality and fairness which Sinn Fein are so fond of paying lip service to? Today’s announcement will only compound the sense that some sports are more equal than others.
“Today’s decision will only service to galvanise Unionism in its determination to return MLAs to Stormont who will stand up to the Republican agenda and ensure that public money is spent on the priorities of the entire community.”
