TUV welcomes call for Garda Adams probe

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“I welcome the fact that the Garda has received a complaint from Fermanagh based victims group SEFF after Gerry Adams boasted in an online video marking the anniversary of the death of convicted murderer Francis Hughes about sheltering the fugitive from justice while he was on the run.

“It is clear to me that there is more than enough evidence in the video to merit a serious investigation into Adams’s role in helping a terrorist evade the law. The people of Northern Ireland, and indeed the Republic, have been so conditioned by the “process” that we have almost grown to accept as nothing out of the ordinary such brazen bragging about criminality but it should not be so. Sheltering a wanted criminal during the IRA terror campaign is no different from sheltering a criminal today.

“It is vital that this matter is treated seriously to show that all are equal under the law and equally subject to the law.”
