Statement from TUV leader Jim Allister:-
“If today’s meeting between the Prime Ministers of the UK and the Republic of Ireland means Boris Johnston has offered concessions on the unitary nature of the U.K. Customs Union and Northern Ireland’s integral and unequivocal part therein, then, we are headed for a sell out. (Of course, it all could be posturing in the blame game, but, if not, then it is very serious.)
“Leaving Northern Ireland in the EU Single Market is already a concession too far and those who acquiesced in it are not immune from responsibility for setting us on the slippery slope of betrayal.
“Made no mistake, any ‘pathway’ to a deal which involves trampling over the integrity of the U.K. and NI’s place within it, would be a betrayal of the Union.
“Keeping N.I. in the EU Customs Union and Single Market is to lock us in a waiting room for Irish unity. Hence, a Northern Ireland only Backstop, howsoever described, is the beginning of the end of The Union.”
