Responding to Gregory Campbell TUV councillor Allister Kyle said:
“Gregory Campbell, who won his Westminster seat from a Unionist who resolutely took a stand against the Belfast Agreement only to become a cheerleader for terrorist inclusive government a short time later, is in no position to talk about “wrecking” Unionism.
“It is not TUV who betrayed their solemn pledge to the Unionist people of Ulster Day 2021 of “opposition to the NI Protocol, its mechanisms and structures”.
“It is not TUV who turned turtle on the “unalterable position that the Protocol must be rejected and replaced by arrangements which fully respect NI’s position as a constituent and integral part of the United Kingdom.”
“It is the DUP who have divided Unionism.
“The arrogant assumption by Mr Campbell that he can sit in a party which has as a core policy the division of the United Kingdom by way of the Protocol and not be challenged by Unionists who believe in the Acts of Union needs to be put to bed.
“Mr Campbell seemed to forget all about curry yogurt last week when a Minister in his party was laughably trying to tell us that Irish is part of the shared heritage of Northern Ireland. He was silent when the DUP deputy First Minister was trying out her camogie skills the other day. But he suddenly finds his voice when Unionists have the option to pass their verdict on DUP Nua.
“TUV has been inundated with people welcoming our link up with Reform UK and the national vision which it shows. They are excited to have the chance to vote for politics which they believe in and which are shaping conversation across the United Kingdom.
“As for his snide comments about how people have voted in relation to EU law, Unionists need only look at how his DUP colleagues in the Assembly backed a ban on British soil not so long ago to see how seriously such remarks should be taken.”
