Statement by TUV Mid Ulster chairman Glenn Moore:
“At a time when many claim that they are concerned about violence against women, I am disgusted that this year once again Sinn Fein have commemorated Thomas McElwee, an IRA terrorist whose contribution to what Republicans laughably describe as the struggle for freedom was the murder of 26 year old Yvonne Dunlop who burned to death because of his bomb.
“Declan Kearney addressed the commemoration attended by Emma Sheeran MLA and at least five Mid Ulster Sinn Fein councillors.
“Thomas McElwee was no hero. He was a killer whose victims deserve to be remembered and treated with respect – something seriously lacking at the weekend.
“It is time the media called out such disgraceful double standards where people talk about respect for women and concern about violence against women one day and lionise a woman killer the next.”
