Statement by TUV Group Leader on Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Cllr Timothy Gaston:
“It is a very proud moment for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, as we have conferred the first Freedom of the Borough on the North Irish Horse.
“I would like to pay tribute to the Council staff who made it happen. It is a credit to Council that we held such a fantastic event to confer this honour. The display on parade from the North Irish Horse impressed everyone, and the brilliant Royal Irish Regiment band were in fine tune.
“It was also encouraging to see a great turnout of cadets – the future looks bright for our young people in the Armed Forces.
“It was also great to see Her Majesty Lord Lieutenant in attendance and I was very touched by the great praise she had for the Council. The News Letter carried comments calling Mid and East Antrim Borough Council ‘one of Northern Ireland’s top councils’ which should make everyone proud to be involved.
“On behalf of TUV I thank North Irish Horse for all they have done for our people in our borough, and the people of Northern Ireland.”
