Statement by Richard Cairns, TUV South Antrim:
“The decision made yesterday evening by the UK Government, supported by the majority of MPs from across the UK, witnessed a solemn debate in Parliament which was civil and exemplified the very values which IS seek to destroy.
“The comment by Francie Molly, Sinn Fein MP for Mid Ulster, were the lowest, most despicable and out of step comments anyone could have made. To claim that “The Brits back to what they do best, murder” is a slight on those who have served in theatres of war across the world, and also those RAF personnel who are now involved in supporting our allies in Syria.
“It is also deeply ironic that Molly – who continues to justify and defend the IRA’s bloody campaign in this Province – should seek to brand anyone a murderer. Whatever one thinks of the decision to extend UK airstrikes to Syria no one can question that this is a direct response to the attack in Paris just a few short weeks ago. Furthermore, while Molly is quick to brand the UK Government as murderers we will recall how Phil Flanagan recently said that ISIS shouldn’t be referred to as terrorists because the term “demonised organisations”.
“So abuse for the UK Government and concern that organisation which is recognised around the world as one of the most barbaric our globe has ever been cursed with is being “demonised”. It seems clear that Sinn Fein/IRA remain committed to the anti-state, pro-terror ideology which has characterised their movement throughout its history.
“Francie Molloy could have entered the House of Commons and added his thoughts from the floor – but instead he gives his constituents no voice in the place he was elected to and decides to do his sniping over twitter.”
