TUV announces Braid council candidates

TUV is pleased to announce that our Council candidates for the Braid area shall be Cllr Christopher Jamieson and Kells man, Matthew Warwick.

Cllr Christopher Jamieson
At 22 Christopher is one of the young generation of unionists, yet with the experience of serving Braid as a councillor since 2019. Married to Jade and living near Clough he resides within the community he serves. Employed locally as an electrician. Farms part-time. Member of the Orange Order.

Matthew Warwick
Deeply rooted in the local community Matthew is well known through his Ulster Scots and Loyal Order involvement as a District Officer. Married to Claire. Life long member of Connor Presbyterian Church and Boys Brigade Officer. An accomplished musician, he is Band Master of Castlegore Flute Band and active in Kells, Connor and Glenwherry Angling Club. Employed as a teacher before becoming Education Officer with Ulster-Scots Community Network. In this capacity, he is actively engaged in maintaining and promoting all aspects of Ulster-Scots linguistic and cultural heritage. He also serves as director on a number of boards supporting the community and voluntary sector.

In a joint statement Christopher Jamieson and Matthew Warwick said, “In offering our services to the voters of Braid we do so conscious of the need to bring rejuvenation to Mid & East Antrim Council where TUV has been a voice of challenge to mismanagement and waste. Things can’t go on as they have been. Councillors need to step up to the mark of delivering accountable local government, built on value for ratepayers and integrity in office.

“Braid, running from Ballee through Kells and Glenwherry to Broughshane and Clough is a large area with diverse needs. We offer on the ground representation for both rural and urban dwellers. As conviction Unionists we will be strong in defending the Union and resisting the threat to the integrity of the U.K. as presented by the Protocol.”

TUV leader and Braid resident himself, Jim Allister, said TUV is pleased to offer Braid voters candidates of proven quality and ability.

“Whereas our primary purpose in this local government election is to offer the electorate in Braid capable and effective council representation, as part of the wider TUV team, we remain conscious that these are challenging times for Unionism because of the iniquitous Protocol, which semi-detaches us from the rest of the U.K. TUV has led from the front on this issue, having identified its threat to the Union from day one, even when others were proclaiming it as ‘sensible’ and building the Irish Sea border posts.

“In regard to the Protocol every vote counts in demonstrating where unionism stands and in that regard there is no stronger and consistent voice than TUV.”

With Cllr Brian Collins not standing after 9 years service on the council, Jim Allister expressed appreciation for his long service and all he had done for the party and his constituents.
