Traditional Unionist Voice have announced their candidate for Strangford at the upcoming general election will be Comber councillor Stephen Cooper. Educated at Andrews Memorial and Regent House, he knows the needs and issues of Strangford first hand and has extensive business experience.
Having served in the UDR he is well acquainted with policing and security matters and is opposed to the foolish plan to close Newtownards courthouse.
Speaking about his selection Stephen said:
“I am delighted to receive backing and support from my local branch members and party officers to carry the baton and give the people of Strangford a real alternative to the UUP and DUP who have proven time after time to be unreliable in government.
“It is essential the Unionist community register to vote and add to the growing numbers who are casting their ballot for TUV because we are the only opposition to Sinn Fein/IRA and their policies.
“I urge everyone who wants a progressive Northern Ireland secure within the Union and uncompromising in its opposition to terrorism to give me their support and send a clear message to the old failed parties that enough is enough.”
Commenting on Stephen’s candidacy TUV leader Jim Allister said:
“I am pleased to recommend councillor Cooper to the electorate of Strangford. Stephen is a candidate of ability and principle who will give people the representation they need in the Mother of Parliaments.
“TUV obtained a strong vote in Strangford last year in the European election and in local government seats which we contested. I look forward to people translating that into a vote for Stephen at the Westminster election.”
