Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:-
“As Mr Tusk and Mr Varadkar dance in step – at least for now – both would do well to remember that if they overplay their hand, resulting in no deal, then both the Republic of Ireland and the rest of EU will be the biggest losers. With the EU selling more to the UK than we do to them and with the Republic heavily importing UK goods, they need a deal more than the UK does.
“The consequence of no deal is that WTO rules kick in for the UK – which already govern most of our non-EU trade – and under the EU treaties the Republic, as the frontier country, must provide and man the border and collect the customs tariffs insisted on by the EU. What an irony that would be?”
