Statement by TUV Euro election candidate Jim Allister:
“The documentation obtained by the UUP and published today after a protracted battle with OFMdFM is a timely reminder of what the DUP and Sinn Fein would have done with £18 million of EU funding at the Maze.
“It is obvious from the documents that the prison buildings would be inextricably linked to the so-called Peace Building. It is clearly stated that “The PbCRC will comprise a new building and a number of listed and retained buildings from the former Maze prison.’ (including H Block 6 and the prison hospital)”.
“It is also evident that the plans had the potential to warp the minds of future generations with preparations being made to take primary school children to the site.
“In her full terms as an MEP Dianne Dodds has said nothing about the Maze shrine – in spite of the fact that it has been the most talked about and debated issue relating to Europe in many years in Northern Ireland.
“She and her party are the only Unionist party to refuse to sign up to the Victims Contract which emphatically rules out any plans to resurrect the Maze Shrine.
“Doubtless many people will keep this in mind when considering who to give their first preference vote to on election day.
“Having campaign against the Maze Shrine since I was last an MEP my track record is clear. The best insurance policy against backtracking on this issue is a vote for TUV in next week’s elections.”
