Statement from TUV Leader Jim Allister:-
“In my book our Prime Minister is always free to visit any part of the United Kingdom, whether I concur with the motivation or message of any particular visit.
“The visit of a foreign Prime Minister is a different matter. Proper protocol should be followed. Coming in to lord it over us is not acceptable. It flows, of course, from the fact that the Republic was allowed to insert itself into Strand One issues and take joint ownership of the negotiations, without a whimper of objection from unionist participants. Collectively they shredded the sanctity of Strand One as internal U.K. affairs for the U.K. only.
“Hence, Dublin’s participation in today’s victory lap. I expect their smug satisfaction is as much to do with their successful destruction of their Strand One exclusion as the overall outcome.
“The blatant hypocrisy of Varadkar’s position is that he wouldn’t have a Shinner about the place in a Dublin Government, but insists we can’t have a government without them.”
