On the day of the resumption of Stormont talks TUV leader, Jim Allister, has issued a stark warning over the direction in which Unionism is being led.
Statement by Jim Allister:-
“The pretence of Monday’s talks that a restored Stormont will bring stability and good government is a cruel deception.
“Sinn Fein, now less than ever, has no interest in making Northern Ireland work. Hence, the stupidity and folly of Unionist parties seeking to restore the failure and shambles that is Stormont. Any such restoration will inevitably be on Sinn Féin’s terms.
“So long as there is a Sinn Fein veto, through the absurdity of mandatory coalition, then government is only obtainable by buying the grace and favour of Sinn Fein through endless concessions. So, Stormont – No Hope Here.
“The supplicant plea of the DUP that it has no red lines is as humiliating as it is inane. If ever there was a time for an immovable red line it is now. And that red line should be no Stormont talks until the terminal threat of an Irish Sea border is reversed.
“The fact that such hasn’t even been mentioned demonstrates, sadly, that power, any power, means more than our integral position within the U.K. Having been led to electoral defeat, Unionism is now being led down a path of folly.”
