Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:-
“The Adams arrest episode exposes the hypocrisy of Sinn Fein’s claims to support the rule of law. Having claimed he was offering himself for questioning – and, of course, he couldn’t lawfully be questioned under caution without being arrested – they then claim political policing and denounce his arrest.
“It is clear from media interviews with Kelly and others that they require immunity for IRA terrorists. When pressed they seek to dodge questions by saying they want the process of Haass to deal with the past, but in truth they are denouncing the pursuit of justice through the criminal justice system. Simple question: should Jean McConville murderers be pursued? Patently, Sinn Fein think not. Of course, not so long ago Mitchell McLaughlin said her murder wasn’t a crime!
“This perverse view of criminal justice is one of the things which continues to render Sinn Fein unfit for government.
“As for the DUP leader’s posturing on this matter, everyone who contemplates why Adams was arrested also remembers that this is the leader of the party which the DUP partners in government. Enough said!”
