Statement by TUV leader and Euro election candidate Jim Allister:
“The day Peter Robinson and the then DUP leader Ian Paisley sat down with Gerry Adams to announce they were going into government together was the day I decided I could no longer remain within the DUP.
“Events of recent days have reminded us all of why one would be of the opinion that Sinn Fein are unfit for government.
“Where else in the world would any democrat consider reminding in coalition with a party whose leader is being questioned about such a serious crime?
“The public will also doubtless note the response of Martin McGuinness who blamed the arrest of Adams on the “dark side” of policing.
“What about the dark deeds of the criminals who took Jean McConville from her children, tortured her and brutally murdered her?
“Surely if McGuinness really supported the rule of law he would want the murderers of Jean McConville brought to justice?
“If he truly believed in justice he would be encouraging the PSNI to pursue all lines of inquiry.
“The fact that he isn’t proves once again that Sinn Fein are totally unfit for government.
“It is time Unionist parties pulled out of their coalition with a party lead by a man being questioned about a murder.”
