Secretary of State makes good case against Windsor whitewash

Statement by TUV vice chairman and Ballymena councillor Matthew Armstrong:

“If any Unionist had doubts about the ability of the so-called “Stormont Brake” to prevent EU law coming into force in Northern Ireland these will have been confirmed by the Secretary of State this morning. His interview on Good Morning Ulster exposed the Windsor Whitewash for what it is.

“In his own words it isn’t just a case of 30 MLAs objecting and referring this to Westminster because “there’s got to be a whole bunch on consultation before hand because there are tests within this to make sure it is done on things that are significant”. Asked if the Government would definitely veto it if there was an objection to something serious from 30 MLAs the Secretary of State dodged the question telling us merely that the Government “will have the ability to veto it”.

“The more the wrapping paper is pulled back on this, the more it is evident that the Windsor Whitewash is just the Protocol by another name. No Unionist worthy of the name could endorse such a betrayal.”
