TUV Deputy Mayor for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Cllr Timothy Gaston, has reacted to the news that Northern Ireland’s suicide rates are the top across the whole of the UK:
“This is a deeply worrying and concerning trend, that for the third consecutive year Northern Ireland has the highest rate of suicides per our population.
“It is important that we encourage more people to talk about mental health and raise awareness that you do not have to suffer alone. There are people who want to hear from you and will do everything to assist you.
“Local Councils now have the power of community planning and I wasnt to see more being done to help promote the importance of everyone’s mental health.
“There are great organisations such as Turning Point NI who offer valuable support to those who find themselves in such situations. I would urge people to contact them if you are in need.”
