Statement from Peter Wilson, Chairman of North Down TUV:
“The TUV stands firmly in support of the Orange Victims’ Day event at Ward Park, a day dedicated to remembering the innocent victims of the Troubles, particularly those brave men and women who served in our security forces and were brutally murdered by the IRA. This day of remembrance is not only a solemn duty but a moral obligation to honour the sacrifice of those who gave their lives in defence of our freedoms and safety.
“It is deeply troubling that the Council has decided to put obstacles in the way of this important event, citing bureaucratic requirements that fail to recognise the significance of such a commemoration. The Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) and other procedural delays should not be used as tools to block a service that is vital to our community’s ability to pay tribute to those who have been taken from us through acts of terrorism.
“The TUV calls on the Council to reconsider this decision and to allow the Remembrance service at Ward Park to go ahead as planned. The memory of those who served in our security forces, who faced the daily threat of violence and paid the ultimate price, must be honoured without delay. It is essential that we, as a community, come together to remember the fallen and to stand united against the forces of division and hatred.
“We urge the Council to do what is right and just. Allow this service to proceed and enable our community to pay its respects in a manner befitting the courage and sacrifice of those we have lost.”
