Statement by Alderman Stewart McDonald:
“The Cardonaghy Road, particularly at Fourtowns Primary School, has become an increasing problem for residents due to excessive speed by motorists and also by those dropping off and collecting school children as they park everywhere and cause obstructions.
“I was saddened to hear that a local resident lost her beloved dog last night as a driver hit it while driving at speed. The driver did not even have the decency to stop.
“This could have been a child’s life; a parent’s life; or even your own life. I have pressed Transport NI to take action, but they have so far done nothing of note. I am disappointed but will continue to raise this issue.
“I do not want there to be a tragic accident, and the agencies involved need to reassess their position.”
