Statement by TUV leader and Euro candidate Jim Allister:
“Peter Robinson’s suggestion that he would have tried to exclude Sinn Fein from government if they hadn’t “corrected” their support for the PSNI is typical pre-election bluster.
“It’s no more meaningful than his threat to resign unless the On the Run letters were withdrawn and the names of those who received them revealed.
“Even if Mr Robinson is to be taken seriously, such a motion would have been subject to a Nationalist veto because of the perverse system of government agreed to by his party.
“The reality is that this is bluff and bluster. Sinn Fein have only been elevated to government because of the DUP.
“People throughout Northern Ireland know that there is only one party which is serious about removing Sinn Fein for government – TUV.
“The reaction of Republicans to the arrest of Adams exposed their support for law and order as highly conditional.
“If Adams had been charged the threat was clear – they were prepared to withdraw support for the PSNI.
“No one inside or out of the DUP believes that the co-First Minister’s comments are serious.”
