Statement by TUV spokesperson Lorna Smyth:
“The emergence of a video showing a large number of young people apparently celebrating and glorifying terrorists at the Ulster Fleadh raises major questions and not just for the event organisers.
“To have hundreds of mainly young people celebrate and glorify the IRA – which engaged in a campaign of sectarian genocide in Tyrone against the minority community – is chilling. What is equally concerning is the lack of reaction from Nationalism. Is this sort of conduct acceptable at the Ulster Fleadh? Worse – is it expected?
“There are major questions for the funders of the Fleadh, including the Arts Council and Fermanagh and Omagh Council.
“Furthermore, the BBC need to explain why they deemed the Fleadh worthy of four and half hours of live coverage on Radio Ulster last Friday evening and uncritical news coverage – something which is in stark contrast to their commentary on Unionist cultural events.”
