Responding to comments by the Secretary of State today in response to a question from his shadow counterpart Hilary Benn Jim Allister said:
“The issues around the Protocol are about much more than Northern Ireland to Great Britain trade. The issue of Great Britain to Northern Ireland trade is key, because it is the surrender of control over this to the EU which has established the Irish Sea Border and suspended Article Six of the Acts of Union.
“Underwriting Northern Ireland to GB trade does not, therefore, solve the Protocol problem, which fundamentally is one of sovereignty.”
