Statement by TUV spokesperson John Brennan:
“This afternoon Alliance leader Naomi Long tweeted that “The impacts of #Brexit and the #NIProtocol need to be addressed not just highlighted: we need to find solutions not just bemoan the problems.”
“Is this the first time that Alliance have faced up to the fact that the Protocol which they called for the “rigorous implementation” of is causing major problems in Northern Ireland?
“Coming just a day after the Manufacturing Northern Ireland report which highlighted the devastating impact of the Protocol on business here could it be that the Alliance Party have found reverse gear?
“Growing numbers of people are coming to realise that the EU far from being our friend is treating Northern Ireland as a football. The lockdown busting trip to Dublin to campaign for the disaster which is the Protocol and the promises that we would enjoy “the best of both worlds” under the Protocol as Kellie Armstrong claimed are now clearly doing Alliance damage.
“When the EU showed its willingness to stop lifesaving vaccines coming to Northern Ireland its mask well and truly slipped. Now even the most Euro grovelling of politicians are seeking to distance themselves from the fallout from the Protocol.”
