Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:-
“In welcoming the decision of the European Court of Human Rights to reject the latest audacious claim by those intent on rewriting history, it is worth noting the salient facts:
Martin McCaughey, along with Dessie Grew, had in their possession two AK 47 rifles when lawfully shot by the SAS;
He and Grew were proclaimed by the IRA to be on ‘active service’.
A fully compliant Article 2 Inquest found they had been lawfully killed.
“I’m glad the ECHR called time on this absurd case, which has been dragged through the courts as part of an orchestrated campaign to vilify the security forces and vindicate the victim-makers.
“McCaughey and Grew were armed IRA terrorists who happily were stopped in their murdering tracks.”
