Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:
“The announcement that Gerry Adams and other leading Sinn Fein figures will not face charges over the kidnapping and murder of Jean McConville, in terms of timing and content, has all the appearance of peace process choreography.
“It underscores a widespread belief that leaders of the republican movement are a protected species.
“Remember – this is the leader of a movement to which the Government issued letters effectively entitling them to walk free from jail. Despite the promises of Peter Robinson that he would resign unless the names were made public we are still in the dark as to the identity of the recipients of OTR letters.
“The murder of Jean McConville was one of the most horrific during the Troubles. The brutal slaughter of a mother of ten continues to haunt Republicanism and gives the lie to their myths of being the defenders of the Nationalist population. However, it seems that once again political considerations have trumped justice.”
