Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:
“Imagine if, whatever the outcome of the election, next Friday morning the only government that by law could be formed is one in which Boris Johnston and Jeremy Corbyn are joint Prime Minister and all parties, as of right, have places in that government. Now, add the toxicity of one of those lead party’s very reason for existence being the destruction of the country over which they govern, and isn’t the absurdity and unworkability of such an arrangement as obvious as it is unacceptable.
“Yet, that is precisely what is imposed on Northern Ireland! This is the reality of Belfast Agreement devolution.
“The absurdity and unworkability of mandatory coalition is clear, yet some foolishly boast of no red lines in enthusiasm to return to government by the grace and favour of Sinn Fein.
“TUV will continue to repudiate and oppose such a system at Stormont.”
