Responding to comments by Maros Sefcovic Jim Allister said:
“With the nation in mourning following the sad passing of HM the Queen it is disrespectful for the EU to be kite flying like this.
“If the border really can be as seamless as Mr Sefkovic claims then why don’t we put it where it should be – between the EU’s territory in the Republic and Northern Ireland?
“Of course, the truth is that the EU are playing political games. Sefkovic has only made these comments because of the fear of action by the U.K. to reassert sovereignty in Northern Ireland. That is the core issue. As part of the U.K. it shouldn’t be in the gift of Mr Sefkovic, who no one in the U.K. elected and no one in the U.K. can remove from office, to dictate what should happen when it comes to trade within the U.K.”
