Statement by Cllr Timothy Gaston, TUV:
“I am all too aware of the hardships faced by residents of Harryville who have over many years been faced with the ever present threat of flooding. Since being elected I have played a role in raising concerns and helped support residents during the creation of the community resilience plan for the Toome road area.
“I welcome the work which is currently underway, but the residents need an assurance that all the phases will be adequately funded to make sure they do not have to face scenes like they had on 9th June 2014.
“Only this week I have been in touch with residents facing difficulties with their insurance, which is a product of this problem not being faced up to many years ago. It is time to fix it so people do not have to live in fear when it starts to rain.”
