Speaking after hosting a site meeting with Transport NI Cllr Gaston said “I was pleased with the response from the Transport NI officials, we took each road into the small busy village in turn and looked at ways to improve the current problem. I had requested speed counters over the previous few months to see the extent of the problem and upon completion of the various roads it was evident from the results frequently motorists were going well above the speed limit.
“We paid particular attention to the Cullybackey, Old Cullybackey and Fenagh roads as these roads each cross the railway line inside the 30mph zone. I trust that the site visits in these locations will lead to the discussed measures being put in place.
“Obviously this issue can’t be resolved purely by Transport NI alone and it will take a joined up approach with PSNI enforcement and of course members of the general public to make the busy Cullybackey village safer for all.”
