Statement by Cllr Timothy Gaston, TUV Bannside:
At the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s Economic Growth and Tourism Committee councillors heard that 1 in 5 young people in the UK are not in work, education or training. The Prince’s Trust helps over 6000 disadvantaged young people aged between 13 – 30 to realise their potential and transform their lives every year in NI.
Speaking at the committee meeting Cllr Gaston said:
“This is a good news story for Mid and East Antrim Council and a project we need to fully get behind. Council fund numerous projects with many of them difficult to see clear outcomes, this project in 2015/16 delivered a 100% pass rate for 18 young people aged between 16 – 25 in qualifications such as Forklift licenses, construction skill register cards and welding codes amongst others. These are great qualifications and will help secure a promising futures for these young people.”
Cllr Gaston went onto propose the recommendation from council officers which was seconded by Cllr Johnson.
