Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:
“Once again this weekend will see a demonstration that Sinn Fein remain wedded to the deeds of their blood soaked IRA. Those who choose to share power with Republicans on the basis that they are supposed to be committed to supporting the rule of law owe us an explanation as why they remain in government with those who idolize gangsters who decided to commit suicide in prison.
“The event is all the more horrendous when one considers the actions of the IRA in Derrylin and indeed the entire Fermanagh area which suffered so much at the hands of IRA terrorism.
“Sinn Fein have shown no concern for IRA victims. The event rubs salt in their wounds yet this is a party which – by virtue of the position it holds in OFMdFM as co-First Minister – has a say in all government issues relating to IRA victims. Furthermore they demand that issues pertaining to terrorist crimes during the Troubles be discussed with them as part of the Haass process!
“The willingness of Republicans to re-traumatize victims in this fashion illustrates that they are completely unfit for government and that their supposed commitment to the rule of law is extremely hollow.”
