Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:
“I was saddened to hear of the passing of former Ballymena councillor Jim Alexander after his long battle with cancer.
“Jim served Ballymena town with great distinction for many years on the former council, having also served as Mayor.
“When the DUP ushered IRA/Sinn Fein into government in 2007, Jim showed his mettle as a staunch unionist by promptly resigning from the DUP. Thereafter, I was pleased to welcome him into TUV and was privileged to have him represent our party on the Council.
“With decades of service, Ballymena owes Jim Alexander a debt of gratitude.
“I wish to express to his widow and family our sincere condolences and thoughts at this difficult time of loss.”
