Change in livestock tags another manifestation of Sea Border

Statement by TUV Braid Councillor Christopher Jamieson:

“Some time ago I noticed that there were changes planned for the livestock tags in Northern Ireland. On foot of that I asked Jim Allister to table the following question:

“To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs to detail (i) whether his Department is changing the prefix on tags for cattle and sheep; (ii) what the changes entail; and (iii) the rationale for this decision”.

“This question was due to be answered today.

“Knowing that TUV were on to the issue, the Minister got his Department to issue a press release on Friday evening announcing that the prefix code on Northern Ireland livestock tags is set to change from ‘UK’ to ‘XI’.

“This is yet another manifestation of the Sea Border which Stormont continues to administer.

“Every day the spin around this issue is colliding with truth and as with this issue TUV will be to the fore in bringing the issues to light”.
