Statement by Richard Cairns, TUV Representative for South Antrim:
“I was bemused then in disbelief by the action taken by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council in their attempt to fine a farmer for smoking in the cab of his tractor. The draconian application of the smoking regulations in this case are absurd, and I am glad that the Ulster Farmers Union have spoken out.
“There are more pressing issues for council officials to concern themselves with, and farmers are subject to enough red tape and bureaucracy as it is without this nonsense.
“The Council should reconsider its pursuit of this matter before it descends further into farce. “
