Statement by TUV party secretary and West Belfast Westminster candidate Ann McClure:
“TUV is the only party to be consistent in making the arguments against Casement. In response, it has often been claimed that we shouldn’t have a problem with the project because football will benefit too as the stadium would host the Euros.
“This was always a nonsense argument but following today’s comments by Jarlath Burns even the GAA have conceded as much.
“Today is yet another opportunity for the DUP Communities Minister to find reverse gear on a project which was ill-conceived. It has been bedevilled by problems from day one. It is grossly overbudget. With today’s admission from Jarlath Burns the pretence that it will benefit any sport other than the GAA is no more.
“It’s time for Gordon Lyons to pull the plug on the project and halt the squander of any more public money on Casement.”
