Statement by TUV:-
“The release of Adams without charge raises serious questions as to how far the authorities blinked in face of Sinn Fein threats and tantrums.
“The corrupt road of “the peace process” is littered with political convenience and expediency. Is this another example? We suspect so.
“Referral to the PPS is a cop out, aimed at a soft landing – after the election – when even the abused ‘public interest’ may be used as an excuse for not proceeding. With Adams’ former solicitor now the DPP public scepticism must be addressed by ultra transparent decision-making within the PPS, whose officers would most probably have been consulted already over the last 4 days.
“The abiding lesson of this episode is that it flushed out how conditional Sinn Fein’s supposed support for the police really is. The DUP justified empowering Sinn Fein by claiming they had signed up to fully supporting the police. In recent days McGuinness demonstrated how wrong that is by making it clear they only supported the police when they weren’t pursuing his ilk.
“Having bought a pup when they accepted Sinn Fein’s bona fides on policing, the DUP now looks exceptionally foolish and must face up to the fact that their partner in government is still the same old anti-police, anti-state Sinn Fein. Will the DUP, for the sake of power, continue to look the other way? We suspect so!”
