Statement by Cllr Donna Anderson, TUV Ballymena:
“A number of regular users of the Motte path that leads to the Harryville Motte and Bailey historical site contacted me over the dilapidated state of the path. I walked the path with them and seen for myself the number of potholes and deteriorated surface – I was shocked at the state it had been allowed to get to.
“This path is used on a daily basis by many people, including disabled people and children who could well suffer a serious injury as a result of the uneven surface. I immediately contacted both Transport NI and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and can only commend them for their fast response. Tarmacing work has now commenced which will be of great benefit to those who use this path.
“Most importantly, the residents of Harryville who brought this to my attention deserve recognition for doing their bit in trying to make Harryville more accessible to all people. They are a credit to their community and I am glad to have been able to assist them.”
