Statement by TUV Euro candidate Jim Allister:
“With just over a week to go before Northern Ireland goes to the polls in the local government and European elections it is an apt time to remember the IRA pedigree of the Sinn Fein Euro candidate.
“Matina Anderson was jailed in 1986 for conspiring to cause explosions in a number of English seaside resorts.
“While in prison she married fellow IRA bomber Paul Kavanagh.
“She went on to serve as a Junior Minister in OFMdFM alongside Jonathan Bell – a roll in which she had responsibility for victims issues.
“Next month will see the first anniversary of the passage of Ann’s Law which removed Anderson’s husband from his position as a Special Adviser in OFMdFM.
“When Unionists hear claims that the DUP are the only people who can defeat Sinn Fein they will doubtless reflect upon the fact that members of that party happily served alongside Bomber Anderson on the executive. They will also remember which of the candidates in this election pushed through legislation which removed her terrorist husband from office.”
