Allister commits to opposing move which could see Gerry Adams claim compensation

Statement by Jim Allister KC MP
“I very much welcome the  paper published by Policy Exchange. In contrast to the muddled thinking of government in proposing to repeal S 46&47 of the Legacy Act (which reversed the foolhardy Supreme Court decision in favour of Gerry Adams), this paper is clinical and unassailable in dismantling the government’s craven proposal.
“The sovereign right of Parliament to reverse faulty court rulings was rightly exercised, with Labour support, in the passing of S 46 & 47. Now, the same Labour Party chooses to side with Adams and open the door to another slap in the face for IRA victims by compensating him for his detention.
“When this government measure comes before the Commons, I will, of course, vigorously oppose it.”
