Statement by TUV Alderman Stewart McDonald:
“On Sunday TUV colleagues and I the Battle of the Somme Remembrance service in Broughshane. It is important to remember and honour our servicemen and women in past conflicts such as the Somme as well as the courage and commitment of those currently in the frontline in present day conflicts. There is a strong military history in our area with the Somme and the events of the Great War still very much part of the family history of many people locally.
“Each of us needs to make space in our lives to reflect on their courage and their sacrifice to defend the freedoms that we take for granted and I would commend those involved in organising a very worthwhile event.”
