Statement by TUV West Tyrone spokesperson Stevan Patterson:
“As a result of the EU’s latest red tape exercise in the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) which applies in Northern Ireland from the 13th December, most small companies in GB that had been previously happy to supply goods to Northern Ireland have now stopped.
“This is a prime example of what is now happening on Ebay – I had ordered products from this supplier in GB only a few weeks ago, but now due to the latest EU bureaucracy of requiring a “responsible person” to act as an insurance agent. It is not economically viable for a small company in GB to provide this and they have decided to stop sending products to Northern Ireland and use the problem with address excuse. My address was fine before the 13th December.
“Thanks to the Nationalist Republican Alliance I have been stopped along with everyone else in Northern Ireland from being able to buy products from within my own country. They had an opportunity to vote against continued rigorous EU rule for another 4 years. Instead, they voted for more of the same EU laws they don’t make or cannot change. So well done to the National and Republican Alliance – they and the EU are a modern day Scrooges this Christmas.”
