Remembering Narrow Water 45 years on

This morning TUV leader Jim Allister MP, party chairman Councillor Keith Ratcliffe and East Belfast representative John Ross attended a roadside service to mark the 45th anniversary of the Narrow Water massacre. The event was very well supported with around 200 present.

Commenting Mr Allister said:

“I was honoured to be invited to today’s event. It was very moving and I am sure the families who travelled to Narrow Water will have been encouraged by the excellent turnout, reminding them that regardless of the actions of those in political power the sacrifice of 27th August 1979 has not been forgotten.

“It is all the more important that events of this nature take place when it is becoming increasingly common for those responsible for the murders to be sung about as heroes. Events such as the Narrow Water Massacre remind us that the IRA were cowards who skulked in ditches while the security forces did what they could to defend all members of the community.

“Just a few days ago the self styled “First Minister for all” spent Sunday commemorating the hunger strikers, whose brothers in arms were responsible for the horrific events of 27th August 1979. I was honoured today to stand with the victims and those who prevented more victims from being created. But it is shameful that those who suffered so much have to fight so hard to keep the memory of what really happened in our Province alive.”

TUV party chairman Cusher councillor Keith Ratcliffe added:

“I was honoured to be invited to today’s event and have the opportunity to pay tribute to the brave men whose lives were stolen that day. I want to commend those who organised this morning’s fitting tribute and assure them and indeed all innocent victims of the unwavering commitment of my party to fighting for them and against the revision of history.”
