Statement by TUV deputy leader Court Councillor Ron McDowell:
“It is totally unacceptable for a function room in City Hall to be used for the launch of something which is clearly linked to the slaughter of many citizens in Belfast.
“Let’s not beat about the bush here. The Easter lily is worn to remember Republican terrorists who died when engaged in activities which robbed innocent people of their lives.
“As a representative of Court, I am particularly disgusted that an event which commemorates Thomas Begley who died in the act of murdering innocent Protestants should be held in a function room in City Hall.
“”There are many within City Council who offer platitudes about wanting to build a City for all but let’s face the facts. The unveiling of a uniform clad gunwomen of Cumann na mban as a City Hall Statue on Saturday was not an inclusive gesture. This commemoration of terror is not an inclusive gesture and forcing a motion to light City Hall in colours of Green, White and Orange is testimony of the truth lurking beneath the surface that Unionists or victims of terror are simply not welcome.”
