Statement by TUV Mourne councillor Harold McKee:
“Having campaigned for the retention of services at Daisy Hill Hospital for many years and as a active member of the lobby group seeking to protect it, I am deeply concerned by this evening’s news that a number of medical staff have ended their tenure.
“People in Mourne have been concerned about the continual running down of services at Daisy Hill for years and frankly the way the Department and Trust have treated the hospital over a sustained period means that there is little surprising about what has happened.
“Once again, the people of my area will feel that they have been forgotten about.”
Cusher TUV council candidate Keith Ratcliffe:
“Stormont has perpetually failed to protect and furnish the NHS with the resources which it so desperately requires. The idea that the return of devolution would make any difference to this situation is for the birds. Many people look at how money is squandered on pet projects and politically motived campaigns such as the demands for an Irish Language Act and conclude that the concerns of the political class are far removed from those of ordinary citizens.”
