TUV West Tyrone chair expressed sympathy with Caldwell family

Statement by TUV West Tyrone branch chairman Charlie Chittick:

“I have known the family for many years and have had many occasions to be grateful for their friendship. When news of the horrifying murder bid broke, I was shaken to my very core. This is a highly respected family, and the injured officer is well known for his positive contribution to the community.

“Like many across Northern Ireland today, I will be remembering the family in prayer and trust that they will know the presence of the Father of mercies and God of all comfort during what is a time of unimaginable trial.

“The people of Omagh are no strangers to Republican terrorism. Due to the bombing in 1998 the town, sadly, has a guaranteed place in the annals of infamy.

“While my thoughts today are with the Caldwell family, I am also mindful of the many for whom this murder bid will awaken memories of loved ones cut down in the line of duty by terrorists in the past. It is galling to hear members of Sinn Fein condemn this incident when their leader in Northern Ireland continues to claim there was “no alternative” to the PIRA committing identical acts of terror”.
