Statement by TUV South Antrim spokesperson Mel Lucas:
“TUV welcomes today’s announcement of a cap on energy costs. It will bring much needed relief to ordinary households.
“Political parties and voices in the media who have cast doubt on the application of the scheme to Northern Ireland because of the absence of devolution should be ashamed of themselves. It was always the case that the money would have to come from our national government. The fact that Stormont is not functioning is, as the government has made clear today, irrelevant. Parties and their friends in the press who have used the energy crisis as a stick to beat Unionists back into implementing the Protocol have been exposed.
“Once again we see the benefits of being part of the U.K. with this news. Being in one of the world’s largest economies clearly puts Northern Ireland householders in a better position that our counterparts in the Republic”.
