Statement by TUV Foyle Assembly candidate Elizabeth Neely:
“Today’s security alerts at Fountain Primary School and Foyleside Shopping Centre highlight the ongoing terror threat of Republicanism in Northern Ireland. The decision to leave a suspect device near a primary and nursery school was particularly callous and speaks to the heartlessness of those involved. Disrupting the lives of small children who have already lost so much of their education due to the pandemic is frankly inexcusable.
“It is time that the police and security forces got a handle on Republican terrorism in Londonderry, whatever flag of convivence they care to use. For too long a hands off approach has been taken. What has to happen before they get serious about tackling this scourge?”
